Blood Work
Blood work is frequently used in veterinary medicine to diagnose health problems and monitor their development. At Hôpital vétérinaire St-Lazare, we have our own laboratory, where we can analyze the blood work in house and quickly obtain the results.
What is blood work used for?
Blood work lets the veterinarian check and detect your pet’s blood glucose, as well as issues such as nutrient deficiencies, the presence of bacteria or infection, kidney problems and even liver disease.
Blood tests are also done before certain procedures to rule out any contraindications to anesthesia.
How often should blood tests be performed?
Generally speaking, blood tests should be performed on your pet once a year. Your veterinarian may recommend them more often depending on your pet’s health condition and age.
Blood work is an excellent way to track the health of your pet, which is why they are commonly used in veterinary practice.
How long does it take to get the results of a blood test?
Since we have an in-house laboratory, we usually get test results quickly. The veterinarian will send you the results as soon as they are ready and explain what they mean.
