Surgical Procedures (+ laparoscopy)
Hôpital vétérinaire St-Lazare has a modern, fully equipped operating room that lets us offer a wide range of elective and non-elective surgery.
What types of surgery do you perform at Hôpital vétérinaire St-Lazare?
The surgical procedures we perform can be divided into two categories: elective surgery (non-urgent cases) and non-elective surgery (urgent or semi-urgent cases).
Elective surgery include sterilization, nasal passage narrowing and correction of hernias. Non-elective surgery includes the excision of masses, caesareans, the removal of foreign bodies (gastrostomy or enterotomy), wound stitching and the extraction of porcupine quills.
Is there an alternative to traditional surgery (with a scalpel)?
Yes, laparoscopy. At Hôpital vétérinaire St-Lazare, we perform procedures using laparoscopy, which is less invasive and painful than traditional surgery. Laparoscopy is used for abdominal surgery and abdominal biopsies. Laparoscopy has been shown to be 66% less painful for pets than traditional surgery.
