Specialized support and monitoring during your pet's golden years.
Aging is inevitable. Watching your beloved companion get older is never pleasant, but our veterinary team can offer a number of ways to make this life stage more enjoyable for your cat or dog.
Each animal is different. In cats, the senior years begin once they reach the age of 9 or 10. In dogs, it really depends on the breed. Small breeds are similar to cats and will be considered senior citizens at approximately 9 or 10 years of age. For large breeds, the senior years usually start at 7 or 8.
As cats and dogs get older, you may notice that they are less energetic, more tired, less agile and have less appetite.
Obviously, every case is different. If you see symptoms in your pet that are not on this list or if you have concerns, feel free to call our Hospital to book a consultation.
As with humans, cats and dogs become more at risk for health problems as they age. Cataracts, heart disease, digestive problems, decreased hearing, sight and smell, osteoarthritis and diabetes are some of the common issues affecting older pets.
