At what age are dogs and cats considered seniors?

Each animal is different. In cats, the senior years begin once they reach the age of 9 or 10. In dogs, it really depends on the breed. Small breeds are similar to cats and will be considered senior citizens at approximately 9 or 10 years of age. For large breeds, the senior years usually start at 7 or 8.

What are the signs of aging in pets?

As cats and dogs get older, you may notice that they are less energetic, more tired, less agile and have less appetite.

What impact does aging have on my pet’s health?

As with humans, cats and dogs become more at risk for health problems as they age. Cataracts, heart disease, digestive problems, decreased hearing, sight and smell, osteoarthritis and diabetes are some of the common issues affecting older pets.
