Medical imaging refers to different techniques, including X-rays, ultrasounds and endoscopy. These types of tests are used when the veterinarian suspects a problem with your pet’s internal organs or bones.

What are X-rays used for?

X-rays provide an image of the internal parts of an animal’s body, such as bones and organs. They are used to diagnose fractures, osteoarthritis, the presence of a foreign body, masses, cancer and heart or lung problems.

What are ultrasounds used for?

Ultrasounds are similar to X-rays in that they show the internal organs of animals, but unlike X-rays, which provide a fixed image, ultrasounds actually film the organs. They are used to monitor a pregnancy and diagnose problems with internal organs, such as the bladder, uterus, kidneys, stomach, intestines, liver, heart, lungs and thyroid gland.
